Bye Bye Honeymoon

Blood Bath
Jeff and I have just had to kiss goodbye to the holiday of a lifetime as we watched the news come in from Sharm el Sheik.

We can't get a refund unless the foreign office put out a warning saying it's too dangerous to travel to Egypt at all, which they don't intend do, but since they've just blown up the resort where we were going, it seems a bit silly for us to go an visit a bomb site.

Our first reactions were "sod them, we'll go anyway". But it's not just us. I've just had my mum on the phone saying she felt sick just knowing that we were going there and that had happened. If we go, our families will worry from the time we take off to the time we come back and we don't know if we could do that, espeially to Sophie.

So there goes our honeymoon. We have nada.

I hate bloody extremists.

Wankers.

Arses. *hugs*

I'm pretty sure you should be able to get a refund if the place has been bombed out. It might be worth checking with ABTA what their policy is on this sort of thing, failing that writing to Watchdog or some such. Did you get travel insurance when you booked the holiday?

Travel insurance doesn't cover acts of terrorism.

Latest was that our hotel wasn't one of the ones attacked and that they're not refunding anyone unless they were due to go out Sat or Sun.

We're probably going to go anyway, but it does put a tarnish on it. As well as the fact that parts of the resort will be no go, you'll always have it in your mind what happened there just a few weeks back.

If the resort you are supost to be staying in no longer exists due to being blown up then you should be entituled to either a refund or an exchange to a similar price/quality venue.

All the same ..... Pants on the blown up thing.

Just thought I'd check to see if you're still alive
It's nice to know that you are.

At least you won't be that bride in Take a Break who was killed/widowed on her honeymoon. Every cloud... and all that.

You still have every right to be pissed off, however.

Re: Just thought I'd check to see if you're still alive
Yep, I've always been pretty clear that I never want the word "tragic" used in relation to any part of my life.

Nor do I have the urge to sell my story to 'pick me up' for £50 to be read by chavs in their coffee break between Trisha and This Morning.

I'm also pissed off that the travel company will refund people due to fly out on the 23rd and 24th July, but not from the 25th onwards. Bloody quick workers to have rebuilt the Na'aama bay resort in two days if you ask me.

Saw a little bit about it on the BBC world service news when we were in Rome. The poor people who depend on tourists for their livelihood are up in arms about it all. They will be sooo glad to see you there - you will be made so welcome and the service should be amazing. I understand why you are worried about going but you'll be made really welcome.
